Black Skimmer with Chick
This newly hatched chick was spotted close to the water, outside the nesting colony. It may have been picked up by a gull and dropped. The mother and other Skimmers were trying desperately to protect it from gulls and other dangers. Then, the tide started coming in nearly washing the chick away. I met a bird Stewart nearby who picked up the chick and returned it to the colony - hopefully it was able to survive...
